The Developing World Will Soon Have More Internet Users than Industrialized Nations

I was shocked to read, in The Development Gateway's Special Report on the Information Society that soon, there will be more internet users in the developing world than the developed.

In 2005, the number of Internet users in developing countries will cross the 500 million mark, surpassing industrial nations for the first time. By some estimates, more than 75 percent of the world’s population now lives within range of a mobile network.

Wow. So what does that mean for organizations working in the developing world? For starters, it goes along way toward answering the question that Jim Cashel asked yesterday: are "Are Books Dead?".
